Ella's Two Year Old Awesomeness

I don't even know where to start with this. I am so smitten with this child. I wish I could figure out why. I have wondered if it is because I made major sacrifices for her for the first 8 months of her life (you know...eating only 7 food items so that she wouldn't have belly aches and could also be breastfed.) Could sacrifice make you love someone more? My dad would say yes. However, I can't imagine feeling any differently about her if she was formula-fed from day one.Currently Kalia is in all-day kindergarten, Annie is in a preschool 4 mornings a week, leaving me to hang out with Ella every morning, just the two of us. She has the best personality. Seriously. Yes, she has her stubborn two-year-old moments, but she has a heart of gold. ANY time she sees ANY one crying, she runs over to them and just hugs them, for a really long time. And just tonight, I saw the roles reversed. Ella fell and bumped her head lightly on the bed. She started to cry a little, and Kalia, who was right next to her, leaned over and kissed her better. Ella jumped up and started hugging Kalia and said, "Thank you, thank you, thank you so much." It melted my heart like a popsicle on the 4th of July. She is also VERY quick to apologize for anything, even things she didn't do. She LOVES to dance and she LOVES to sing, (don't even dare try to sing when she is singing). She has learned this from her sisters, especially Annie, who she spends a lot of time with while Kalia is gone. They get along really well. Kalia and Annie treat Ella so good, and really try to be good examples to her. Anytime I want them to stop behaving a certain way (or start doing certain things....ahem...Kalia...closing her eyes during prayers) I just remind them that Ella does whatever they do, and they honestly try much harder to show her the right way. I love this about all of them. Multiple times during the day, Ella runs to her room to put on a tutu. Other times, she puts on our clothes (my shirts, their dresses) and comes out, holding out her skirt and talks about being being "bootiful" or "I a pincess" Then she twirls and twirls and twirls. She also likes to lean on one foot and say, "I balance." She loves to climb on things and jump off, and she is strong and totally solid. She's one of those kids that is much heavier than she looks. She's not chubby though, so I guess she's a little ball of muscle.she currently weighs 31 lbs and is 36 inches tall. Her favorite thing to watch lately is the Barbie movie Princess and the Popstar. She knows MOST of the words to MOST of the songs, and she grabs a little thing of toll paint (for a microphone) and sings them. Preferably on a stage of some sort. Only a movie can do this justice, so I will show you what I'm talking about. She learned to whine from Annie and is testing it out occasionally, so I really stress to everyone to NEVER give her ANYTHING if she whines, cries, or moans (or throws a tantrum of course.) However, they also know that if she manages to calm herself and ask in a nice voice for something, and say please, we almost ALWAYS give it to her. That's how we reinforce good behavior around here, and it works well. Kalia and Annie are very patient with having to give up a lot of things just because Ella asks the right way. I try to give them something even better in return for their help.Ella is very enthusiastic about life in general. One of my favorite phrases from her is to hear how much she loves things. Example: "Do you remember Grandpa Dale?" Her answer: "I LOVE grandpa Dale!!!" "Do you want scrambled eggs?" And she says, "I LOVE EGGIES!" and runs to her high chair, climbs in, starts gobbling them up, and says "YUM YUM YUM, SO SO GOOD." Being around such a happy child is probably why I love spending so much time with her. How can you not love that? She can't get enough of being outside. She can pedal a little bike, ride a little pink scooter, and she wants to stop at every park she sees. She wears EVERYONE's flips flops and can keep them on her feet without any trouble. She loves to have the window down and wind blowing in her face. And even when the window is up and I'm driving, she randomly starts saying, "Go faster! Go faster!" Lately, when I leave her for awhile with someone and then come back, she always asks me, "Good day?" I guess she's heard me ask Kalia that when she gets home from school. She just pooped in the potty for the first time three weeks ago. She ran and did it on her own and hasnt done it since. We have been letting her pee on the potty for about four months. She does it several times a day, especially if I anyone else says they have to go. Then immediately she has to beat them to it. She likes to say that she has to "go potty real bad." (It's always "real bad", whether or not it's a lot of potty that actually comes out.) We have been talking about how HAPPY mommy will be when she poops in the potty, but she just isnt quite ready. She always seems to "save" her poop for naptime and bedtime, and usually waits until she's alone to do it. But on Sunday she was running around naked (common around here) and then ran to the potty, and then we hear her say, "I did a poop." She has cried wolf MANY times before, so we didn't believe her, but Annie went and checked and came RUNNING out to tell us she had ACTUALLY done a good sized poop in the potty. We all seriously REJOICED. I was so bummed it was Sunday because otherwise we would have driven STRAIGHT to the store for a donut. Instead we settled on giving her like, 3/4 a cup of chocolate chips. It was SO much chocolate. She ate every bit of it and luckily didn't have any allergic reactions to it.

She sleeps in the king bed with her sisters, but still comes into our bed every night. She still naps from 1-3 but lately hasn't been falling asleep til 8:30 or 9. She is super cheerful if we let her stay up with us and Samuel enjoys getting to spend time with her since he doesn't see her a lot with his schedule. So this works for now.

I still think she is the smartest two year old around, at least when it comes to learning and memorizing and knowing all the colors, shapes, letters, and even a lot if their sounds. She even knows the 2nd and the 8th article of faith completely. She learned them by hearing us sing them at night.

She loves Taylor Swift songs and knows 75% of the lyrics to Trouble, and when we drive she requests that song and Red, over and over.

She is the pickiest eater though. She won't eat bread or vegetables or fruit (sometimes a banana or strawberry or blueberry...if she is in the mood). We make sure to avoid corn and chicken although we are seeing some progress with the introduction of processed chicken nuggets. She pretty much won't eat anything but pasta, eggs, rice, pretzles, beef, pork, and turkey. And organic blended baby food fruit or applesauce in a pouch. And chocolate and cookies of course. She seems to have outgrown most food sensitivities... now she is just so picky. . We've let her stay on her bottle of formula just to ensure that she is getting all her vitamins, calories, and fat. Our insurance still pays for it and ships it to our door, so why not. Ella does get cranky when she's hungry, just like Mama, but she doesn't vocalize hunger or ask for food, so we have to stay on top of her eating.

I expected her to be pretty jealous of the baby but that hasn't turned out to be the case! More on that very soon.

38 weeks and CRANKY! Me in a nutshell.

Yeah, let's just get right to it. I am so SO SO cranky. I know I hit a spot where I Just.Want.To.Complain. during every pregnancy. And so this is it. I apologize in advance for sounding bratty or ungrateful for the little life inside me. I love her dearly and am constantly amazed at the miracle of it all. But I am really not feeling great, and I will feel better once I vent.It was about a week ago that I felt my good mood slipping away. I have been sleeping horribly for about 4 weeks, but it's hit an all-time low lately. I will stop drinking all liquids by 10 p.m., go to bed at midnight, and still get up to go the bathroom almost hourly for the next six hours. And it's not just a little bit. It's SO MUCH VOLUME. I know there is no way it's from what I'm drinking. I finally realized it's the swelling in my legs. I wore my support hose for as long as I could one day (oh man, they were so tight and so itchy, I could hardly stand it) but it cut my nightly bathroom trips in half. I guess I better keep wearing them. That's another thing though. My legs are achy, especially if I have to be standing on them for more than 10 minutes. And the fatigue. Oh...the fatigue. It's certainly a combination of the lack of sleep (I think I will get MORE sleep when I have a newborn than I am getting now. True story.) along with the changing of hormones (decline of progesterone, for one) that is contributing to this. But all of a sudden I cannot make it through the day without a nap. This means that despite an incresingly messy house (which makes me increasingly irritable), I can't summon the strength to clean it. Any time I have "free time" (a.k.a. Ella is napping and Annie is either at preschool, at a friends house, or watching a movie), I tell myself, TIME TO CLEAN! Then I realize there's no way on earth, and I go fall right to sleep in my bed.I have lost all desire to cook anything except hot dogs and chicken nuggets for my kids (poor things, although they love it) and poor Samuel is just trying to endure it all. He is taking the brunt of it, of course. My girls are probably noticing my short fuse as well. I have been able to keep it in check around extended family and strangers. I haven't ripped anyone's heads off. And I feel bad that I must be so awful to be around right now. But soon things will change. Overall, it's been a good pregnancy. I never did throw up. I felt great for most of the 2nd trimester. My biggest fear was that I would have major pelvic pain and complications, since there was some nerve damage that happened while giving birth to Ella. I even worried that this would have to be my last baby if my body was going to be too messed up and in too much pain to keep having babies. That hasn't turned out to be the case. I have occasional and random leg pain (inner thigh mostly) but it has really been bearable and hasn't crippled me in any way. So I am thankful for that. I hope I feel okay after the birth- I was in a lot of pain a few weeks after I had Ella and it lasted for months. I couldn't work out or do any strength training or anything, and while on that crazy nursing diet I just wasted away and lost all my muscle.Speaking of the diet...that's the only thing that makes me want this baby to stay in there as long as possible. I am starting to savor every glass of milk I drink, every warm chocolate chip cookie or slice of cheesy pizza, knowing that more than likely I will stop eating it all in a few weeks, and won't eat it again for about eight months. Kalia is my only child who did NOT have food allergies, so there IS a chance that this one won't, but I'm not counting on it. I will miss the delicious food that I've been eating. I don't eat a lot at once- cause then it just feels like it's sitting in my throat, but I haven't had any heartburn (ever, actually) so I am free to eat anything, at any time. That's why I've now hit a 40 lb weight gain. Darn it. But that's okay. My hands are swelling and I am not wearing my real wedding ring set anymore, so I know I can blame some of it on the swelling. My clothes are all feeling too tight and my shirts and maternity garments don't really cover my belly...yet another indicator that it's time to get that baby out. Actually, I kind of hate wearing clothes these days but I do it for my family's sake. I am dilated to 1 cm, that's the exact thing I've done with every pregnancy. I don't dilate further until the day I give birth. At least everything seems to be right on schedule, which is nice. I haven't packed a hospital bag or anything, so it's safe to say I am 100% sure she won't be here before April 25th. I my due date is April 28th, and I'm hoping to go into labor on the 25th (right after my mom arrives) because that's what happened with Kalia and Ella- I went into labor 3 days early. I am taking some Evening Primrose oil and drinking raspberry leaf tea and hoping these things help me have a fast and short labor. Oh yeah, and I tested negative for Group B Strep (again, never have had it) and the baby is head down. In my ultrasound last week, she was measuring 6 lbs 12 oz (I was 36 weeks 5 days) and her head was on the small size (and oval), apparently great things for birthing, but her tummy was a little bigger and her femur was longer too. So she might be a tad bigger than Ella and Annie, both 8 lbs, but probably not as big as Kalia (9 lbs). Okay, glad to get all that out of the way. Here's a few pics from my phone. I was able to get some 3D ultrasound pics when they were checking to see if she was head-down. Baby looks like she has beautiful little lips and chubby cheeks. She looks like Kalia looked, at least from my best guess.

37 week photo. Wearing all black is my basic plan of attack these days.

If you take your picture in the reflection of a window instead of a mirror, it makes you feel less chubby. (hahahahaha) Thank goodness for my stretchy gaucho pants. They are pretty much the only thing that is comfortable to wear.

I was kind of fascinated by all the veins I could see on my belly but I couldn't capture them in a photo. Again, this was from 36 or 37 weeks.

Ella Turns 2

Since I am not feeling like blogging much (I am 37 weeks along, as of today)
Here's Ella's 2nd birthday in pictures.
She got a tutu and headband in the mail from Grandma Karen. This girl LOVES to wear skirts, especially tutus, and dance around and sing "Angelina Ballerina, la la la la, la la la la) etc. She wore this skirt all day, including to Costco (with clothes underneath of course) and got  lots of compliments on it. She also got chocolate on it as well. She got to play games on the Iphone (one of her favorite things) and she always has her little pink blanket (basically her best friend) nearby. We
had lots of fun in the afternoon when we drove up to Scottsdale to see Krystal and fam, visiting for the week and staying at a nice timeshare. We got to swim, play, barbeque, and eat donuts and cupcakes. It was a blast.

More on Ella soon!

Easter 2013

 Posers.

Ella found a large egg. I mean...some citrus.

I look super huge from this angle.  Posting it anyway.

We did a Bigler family Happy Birthday song for Ella. She doesn't like cake, so it's just a mound of frosting.
I love this action shot too.
Love this pic of my girls.

These are pictures from our Saturday hunt/ward breakfast (and the only time I wore jeans my entire pregnancy.)
